PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Nia Seunghye Kang
AKCSE Young Generation is a community for its members to consult and share with each other ideas and opportunities. I am extremely grateful to be serving as president of the national body of the organization and hope to make the nationwide connection a useful and innovative one.
AKCSE Young Generation National was founded in 2013 to help join the Young Generation chapters and create a national network for everyone involved. It represents 16 school chapters under AKCSE, and works to support and challenge its students through self-organized events in hopes of encouraging cohesion across chapters. My vision is that students can motivate and inspire each other better than anyone else can - by inducing better quality conversations and sharing of ideas, I believe that we will be able to build a strong network of Korean Canadian Scientists and Engineers in which valuable opportunities can be found.
I, myself, have grown with AKCSE in ways I would have thought impossible a few years ago. AKCSE has provided me with copious opportunities that has led me to where I am today. Along the way, I have met several mentors who have challenged me and encouraged self-discovery. Without them, I would not have known to take the chances I have taken nor learnt the valuable life skills I have learnt working alongside them.
For the 2018-2019 school year, AKCSE YG National is focusing on cohesion and better communication. As the bridge between the student chapters and the headquarters, we aspire to present more accessible opportunities and to remind our members that the support we have to offer is not out of reach. So far this year, we have hosted three entrepreneurship events across Canada - in Calgary, Toronto and Halifax - with great success. For the remainder of the year, we hope to establish an online platform to compile the assets we have for easier access. Forming a network is an integral purpose of YGN, and we wish to achieve that by taking into account the various perspectives and needs as expressed by our students.
On behalf of YGN, I sincerely hope to make a positive impact and to be a helpful resource to be of aid to those involved. I would like to applaud and thank each and every one of the school chapter presidents at this point for their efforts and cooperation in YGN that makes everything we do possible.
YGN 2018-20 President
Nia Kang
